The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition, the National Council of Arab Americans and the
Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation have jointly initiated a
National Emergency March on Washington in defense of the people of
Palestine and Lebanon who are under brutal attack by the U.S.-backed
Israeli government. On August 12, thousands will gather in Washington,
D.C., and at regional demonstrations in Los Angeles and San Francisco to
demand an end to the U.S.-Israeli war on the Middle East.

Israel is bombing crowded neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure in
Lebanon, as it destroys homes and kills indiscriminately in its
murderous assault on Gaza. More than 85 Palestinians and 70 Lebanese
people have been killed in Israeli actions so far. The number of dead
and injured will likely increase rapidly in the coming days.

Israel's U.S.-backed deliberate attacks on the civilian populations
of Lebanon and Gaza, with the intent of causing maximum
suffering, are crimes against humanity. What we are
witnessing today in Lebanon and Gaza is collective punishment
against the whole Lebanese and Palestinian populations.

All progressive, anti-war, Muslim,
Arab American, trade union and civil rights organizations should stand
with the oppressed peoples of the Middle East and demand an end to the
U.S.-Israeli war.

La esperanza de cambio para inmigrantes mexicanos está en la organización desde abajo y no en los resultados electorales

Los Angeles, California.- El desencanto y resentimiento de inmigrantes mexicanos en contra del gobierno de su país, cuyas políticas los empujaron a cruzar la frontera “en busca de una vida mejor”, se manifestaron hoy en el rechazo a la represión gubernamental contra los campesinos de Atenco y los maestros de Oaxaca, las violaciones de mujeres, los encarcelamientos y el estado policiaco-militar que impera al sur del río Bravo.

Conscientes de que fueron expulsados de México por la miseria, entre otros factores, más de cien mexicanos radicados en el Sur de California, así como simpatizantes chicanos y centroamericanos, realizaron este 2 de julio frente al consulado mexicano en Los Angeles, un acto político-cultural como protesta contra los partidos políticos y en repudio a la “farsa electoral”.

“En nuestro país, hoy miles de mexicanos están eligiendo a un nuevo presidente de la República con la esperanza de cambiar la grave situación económica, política y social que padecen millones de personas. Sin embargo, en todo el país, el pueblo trabajador, la gente de abajo que no cree en esta farsa electoral, está construyendo un movimiento de rebelión nacional que va más allá de las elecciones”, señala un documento que fue repartido entre las personas que se dirigian al parque MacArthur y que se detenian a escuchar a los oradores .

Desde el medio día, integrantes de diferentes organizaciones que conforman La Otra en el Otro Lado, sección Los Angeles, comenzaron a instalar frente al edificio consular, coloridas mantas que expresan rechazo y condena a la política represiva del saliente presidente de la república, Vicente Fox (del Partido Acción Nacional) y del gobernador oaxaqueño Ulises Ruiz (del Partido Revolucionario Institucional).

“La falta de alimento en la mesa de nuestras familias porque no hay trabajo, el aumento de la prostitución de mujeres y niños a causa del hambre; el incremento de consumo de drogas entre los jóvenes al ver cancelada la oportunidad de continuar sus estudios y la desesperaza de los campesinos que ya no pueden sobrevivir sembrando su tierra, conforman la vida diaria de los mexicanos del campo y la ciudad”, agrega el documento.

Además, indica que “esta angustiante situación está obligando a nuestro pueblo a emigrar a las grandes ciudades de México y también venir al Norte, a pesar del sufrimiento que esto significa. Más de 4 mil paisanos han muerto en su intento de huir de la miseria y la represión que han mantenido todos los gobiernos en turno. El sufrimiento que vivimos los que libramos la frontera, es conocido por todos nosotros”.

Los presentes coincidieron en que ”el pueblo de México ya no aguanta más a este mal gobierno que solo se mantiene en el poder utilizando al ejército y la policía para matar y reprimir a indígenas como se vio en las masacres de Acteal en Chiapas, y de Aguas Blancas y El Charco, en Guerrero; a los campesinos, como sucedió en Atenco y Texcoco (donde además, los pequeños comerciantes luchaban en contra de un Wal-Mart); a maestros como ocurrió en Oaxaca, donde la policía asesinó a alrededor de 10 profesores y profesoras que pedían mejorar la educación y aumento de sueldo y lastimó a muchos más”.

“Cárcel, golpes, gases lacrimógenos, desapariciones, violaciones a mujeres y persecusión en contra de la gente humilde, es la respuesta del gobierno frente a quienes se atreven a desafiar al sistema capitalista de explotación y muerte que fue recrudecido durante el sexenio del derechista Vicente Fox por mandato de su jefe George W. Bush”, se lee en el volante.

Entre danzas del grupo Cuauhtémoc, música de los Xochisoneros, Son Real y el Hip Hop de Almas Intocables, los presentes se enteraron que “a pesar de esta grave situación, los candidatos presidenciales, seguidos por los que quieren ser senadores y diputados, pero sobretodo, los aspirantes presidenciales, no tienen vergüenza para hablar de una realidad que nada tiene que ver con lo que el pueblo está viviendo. Cínicamente los candidatos gastan millones de pesos en sus campañas para llegar al poder sin importarles que en este mismo momento haya mexicanos que se están muriendo a causa de enfermedades curables, en su intento de cruzar la frontera o por las golpizas de la policía represora”.

“Frente a esta campaña de los de arriba, los de abajo venimos juntando nuestras luchas de resistencia que han de acabar con los malos gobiernos, que buscan que los trabajadores del campo y la ciudad seamos los dueños de los medios de producción, de lo que producimos, de nuestra libertad y de nuestra propia vida”, sostuvieron los manifestantes.

Los integrantes de las organizaciones comentaron que independientemente de quién resulte ganador de las elecciones presidenciales, la única esperanza de cambio para los migrantes es la que viene construyendo el pueblo organizado y que ahora confluye en La Otra Campaña, por lo que hicieron un llamado a todos los presentes, primero, a mantenerse informados de lo que realmente acontece en México y a organizarse mejor a nivel local, para inegrarse a La Otra Campaña pues esta lucha durará mucho tiempo.

No a las leyes racistas contra los trabajadores migrantes!!!

Mas de 150 mil trabajadores migrantes tomaron las calles en Chicago el pasado 10 de marzo. El proximo sabado 25 de marzo los trabajadores migrantes se movilizaran en Los Angeles para oponerse a las leyes que criminalizan la situacion de millones de trabajadores victimas de politicas economicas que, ya los esclavizaron y expulsaron de sus propios paises y que ahora los siguen oprimiendo en este pais.

What: Join “Friends of the Farm,” an autonomous international collection of compassionate beings, to demand that the Mayor and City Council of the City of LosAngeles intervene in the imminent destruction of one of the most successful, autonomous community projects and an exquisite landmark of Los Angeles:

The South Central Farm, the largest urban farm in the U.S.!

Why: February 5, 2006: The official eviction notice may be served within days! For 13 years, 350 families have tended a 14-acre urban farm in the middle of South Central Los Angeles. In between freight lines and warehouses, in the shadows of the downtown skyscrapers grandparents and their grandchildren are growing their own corn, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and other staples has helped make good nutrition affordable. Traditional crops blossoming from heirloom seeds like chipillin, alachi, quelite and pipicha have helped keep meso-american culture and natural medicine alive. This urban farm, the largest in the U.S., provides a safe, children-friendly environment for 350 families and thousands of visitors who come to the lively farmers market on Sundays or other social/cultural events hosted at the farm. The farm is also an oasis of green-space that helps to create wildlife habitat and to lessen air and water pollution in the surrounding community.

The City of L.A. acquired the land in the late 1980s through eminent domain and a 4.7 million dollar settlement, but abandoned plans to build a trash incinerator after community protests. In 1992, in the wake of the uprising the mayor at the time mitigated this project to the community to quench the social and economic inequalities that initially sparked the uprising. In 1994, officials transferred title to the Harbor Department for 13.1million dollars, which contracted with the L.A. Regional Food Bank to operate a community farm on the property. In 2003, the City Council agreed to sell the 14 acres back to the original owner, private developer Ralph Horowitz, for 5.1 million dollars and who wants to demolish the urban farm to build a warehouse. The 350 families (“South Central Farmers”) and community supporters of the South Central Farm have been camping out in the field since July of 2005 to prevent Ralph Horowitz from destroying this vibrant urban farm that provides significant benefits to the city of Los Angeles.

The struggle to save the South Central Farm is about food security, environmental and social justice: all communities deserve safe access to nutritious food, parks, gardens and safe place for children, youth and their families. The South Central Farmers are self-sufficient and are working diligently to protect this community asset.

We want the mayor and community to call for an investigation of this illegal sale and immediately resolve the threat of physical eviction. Approximately 8 million dollars of the citizen’s money has already been squandered and over 350 families will be immediately pushed deeper into poverty. Don’t let them take food out of our children’s mouths. It is a basic human right to feed yourself and your family!!

1) disseminate information about diverse issues that are of central importance to the community such as education, health, environment, tenant and workers? rights, and proposed laws and government policy,

2) explore the rich and valuable art and culture of the Latin American community, and to

3) give due attention to and inform the public on community organizations that work to protect and educate us on such issues.
